The Christmas season has come and gone in Las Conchas and we are now into a new year. Hopefully 2010 will bring good health and prosperity to all of us. The week between Christmas and New Year’s Rocky Point saw a lot of people back in town, which certainly did stimulate the economy.

The Christmas season in Mexico is filled with so much tradition, including the annual series of “Posadas” (Christmas shelters where celebrations are held). Around the 15th of December, my neighbors here in Puerto Peñasco all start with the Posadas every night. Read more

Update from the Las Conchas Peninsula

update1Although Tessoro’s visitors always see me in Rocky Point, my family is in the United States and this week I became a proud Marine Corp grandma. I left Puerto Peñasco to see my middle grandson PFC Ryan Gardner graduate from MCRD Boot Camp in San Diego. It made me so proud to see him after 13 weeks, now a young man. Walking on his arm was so special. The patriotism and pride is so incredible and the camaraderie of the parents and families is beyond belief. For anyone that knows me, I am an emotional person who cries while singing Silent Night and when Bambie’s mother died, so you can only imagine my reaction to all the patriotic songs. The final one was Lee Greenwood’s “I’m Proud to Be an American.” Read more

Lanae was raised in Tucson and grew up visiting Las Conchas with her family. She is now a happy mother of three and is moving into a Diamond Residence at Tessoro with her husband, Darry.

Q: So when did you first visit Rocky Point?

Over thirty years ago, our family started taking vacations to the beach at Las Conchas. We rented different beach houses and always enjoyed spending time at the estuary. The beautiful wide-open spaces offered something for everyone in our family. We enjoyed body surfing, walking the beach, collecting shells, fishing, exploring the coral reefs, building sand castles, frisbee, picnics, bonfires, and cruising the sand dunes. Read more

Celebrating Change and Independence in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico

Cultural Notes from Tessoro at Las Conchas

As I drive around Puerto Penasco this time of the year, the streets are so colorful with Mexican flags flying everywhere. This is a particularly festive September, as Puerto Peñasco celebrates both new leadership and old triumphs.

On September 13th we install Puerto Peñasco’s new Mayor and Sonora’s new Governor. The city hall is being transformed for the street party. Shortly thereafter, on September 16, Mexico celebrates its independence day – the Mexican version of the Fourth of July.- Read more
