August in Rocky Point – Musings from the Las Conchas Peninsula

This past week has seen some lovely changes in the weather. Normally it can humid in August, but our nights and early morning hours are around 75 degrees. There has been a nice breeze off the ocean and we have had some high tides due to the full moon.

Even thought the days are warm, the residents in Las Conchas are out walking every day and enjoying the beach. Many, like myself, bring their dogs for a walk. My two German Shepherds have really been enjoying themselves frolicking in the water and chasing the Sea Gulls. I have come to the conclussion that people who don’t like dogs simply have never had one touch their heart. Big and small, they all run together on the beach.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking up a gentleman from Idaho Falls, ID to see the Diamond while it was high tide. All of Tessoro’s visitors report feeling a real “WOW ” factor from seeing the unparalleled views and quality of construction, but this gentleman had the added bonus of seeing the August high tide and the Morua Estuary at its finest. As we gazed out over the vivid blue water shades unique to the Estuary, we saw that pelicans had lined the beach waiting to hunt for their dinner and 2 huge Blue Heron trotted gracefully along the shore.

We had an unusual event 2 weeks ago, when a large whale came ashore. We don’t see that very often anymore. The fisherman say that when the whales get sick, they head north so that the warm Sea of Cortez waters will help heal them. Some end up running ashore, but most just swim around and visit Puerto Peñasco’s beaches. Be on the lookout if you visit Rocky Point this month.
