Las Conchas Promotion Effort – Introducing “Las Conchas Ecological, Cultural and Residential Destination.”

Las Conchas has long been Puerto Peñasco’s signature neighborhood. With 30 years of rich history, Americans, Canadians and Mexican nationals have gravitated to the beaches south-east of Whale Hill stretching towards Estuary Morua. CEDO, Tessoro and other local leaders are spearheading an effort to celebrate Las Conchas and its ecological, cultural and residential heritage.

Rocky Point visitors should look for a new Las Conchas map in the coming weeks highlighting the neighborhood’s many attractions – The CETMAR Aquarium, CEDO Intercultural Institute, NaturArte ecotourism corridor, Morua Estuary, Las Conchas Peninsula, San Jorge Island and more. The map also helps direct visitors to activities in the neighborhood, including the many tours operated by CEDO which open up a world of kayaks, bird watching, walking nature tours, and interactions with local fishing cooperatives.

As Puerto Peñasco grows, one of the challenges for the town will be to offer a sense of place and a wealth of activities that will engage visitors and invite them back again and again. While days at a big resort moving from apartment to pool to beach to bar to restaurant can be relaxing, the town must offer more than this and too many visitors, particularly newer ones, have become lost in the monotony of generic condo resorts in Sandy Beach and Mirador hotels.

A whole world outside of the resorts awaits and this map is a first step in focusing visitors on some of the things that makes Rocky Point a special destination.
